What is PMLD?

Profound and multiple learning disabilities (PMLD) is a term that describes a diverse group of people with learning disabilities and complex needs. People with PMLD have more than one disability, the most significant being a profound intellectual disability. They experience substantial communication difficulties and often rely on people who know them well to interpret their responses and intentions.

PMLD affects most areas of life, meaning individuals need support with most or all daily activities. However, everyone with PMLD has the capacity to take part in everyday life in ways that reflect their needs and abilities, benefit from good healthcare and communicate their level of satisfaction with their quality of life in different ways. At Achieve together we are proud to support an increasing number of people with PMLD, meeting their varying needs and supporting them to live meaningful and happy lives.
