Our commitment to people and the planet

At Achieve together, we believe support should go beyond  the everyday.

We are committed to creating a positive impact – for people, communities, and the planet – through inclusion, sustainability, valuing everyone’s contribution and ethical practice in everything we do.

Empowering people, championing inclusion

Our social impact starts with people we support.

We work in partnership with them – and their families, teams and communities – to build a more inclusive, supportive and equal society.

From co-production and advocacy to team wellbeing and ethical practices, we’re committed to making a difference, together.

Promoting co-production and self-advocacy

It is essential that people are supported to be in control of their own life, and lifestyle. We work alongside people, listening attentively and ensuring people are actively engaged in shaping their support, and services.

We work with people, to be active members of their local community, and to reduce inequalities in society – empowering people to be assertive, and self-confident.

Unity, our Co-Production Partner, and Campaign 4 Change (Self Advocacy Group) are led by people we support. From sitting on interview panels, influencing local and national policy, advising on research projects, and leading national campaigns, their impact runs throughout Achieve together and beyond.

Promoting inclusion and diversity

We want every person to feel seen, heard and valued.

Through our approach to relational support, we seek to understand and respect each person’s life story and life journey.

We celebrate identity and challenge stereotypes through initiatives such as #ThisIsMe campaign, promoting understanding, allyship and visibility.

Investing in our teams

We believe great support comes from well supported teams with shared values.

Through structured professional development opportunities, team welfare planning and a proactive culture we help team members to thrive, so in turn they support others to thrive.

We focus on building trusting relationships with colleagues and people we support, with emphasis on everyone’s psychological safety.

Building strong partnerships

Providing great support means building strong, trusting relationships with people we support, their families, wider circle of support and the local neighbourhood.

Maximising collaboration and sharing of ideas means maximising opportunities for people we support to lead the life they want.

Upholding ethical practices

Everything we do is built on trust, transparency, fairness and accountability.

From how we respond to feedback, how we manage finances we will always work with integrity. Decision making will always be in the best interests of each person we support.

Making a difference in the communities we’re part of

We want to be a force for good - not just in the lives of people supported, but in their local communities.

We will act as good neighbours, supporting people to play active roles in their neighbourhood, offering time and skill, gaining meaningful education and employment, accessing community resources that benefit the person.

Supporting employment and local businesses

We support people we work with to access meaningful, sustainable employment – and help them connect with local businesses that align with our values.

We prioritise local suppliers and partners who share our values – helping us to give back to the communities we serve.

Setting standards for our partners

We expect high standards from everyone we work with.

That includes contractors and suppliers – who must meet our expectations on ethical employment, sustainability and service quality.

Unity Environmental Champions

People we support are involved in our environmental work every step of the way.

Our Unity Environmental Champions take part in green initiatives across homes and services – from waste reduction to energy awareness – ensuring sustainability is truly co-produced. These initiatives support connection, wellbeing and pride – while giving back to the planet.

Advancing equality and opportunity

Gender equality in action

In 2024 our gender pay gap reduced to just 0.8% - well below the national average.

With 68% of our workforce and 78% of managers identifying as women we are committed to growing inclusive leadership.

Equality at every level

We actively promote diversity, equity and inclusion across our homes and teams – ensuring everyone has the tools and support to succeed.

Building a greener future together

The health of our communities is deeply connected to the health of our planet.

From big-picture goals to everyday improvements, we’re working to protect the planet – together.

From renewable energy to smarter waste management, our sustainability work is co-produced with people we support, creating a shared sense of purpose and pride.

Our journey to Net Zero

We’re working towards Net Zero carbon emissions by 2045 – and we’re already making progress.

All of our homes and services are now powered by 100% certified renewable energy and gas, reducing our carbon footprint across England and Wales.

Turning waste into energy:

We’ve adopted waste-to-energy solutions in 206 of our homes – helping us divert more than 1,100 tonnes of waste from landfill in 2024 alone.

Planning for a better future

Our growth is guided by a long-term commitment to sustainability – in the way we build, the goals we align to and the future we’re helping to shape.

From low-carbon building methods to global development principles, we’re making sure progress doesn’t come at the planet’s expense.

Building better, building greener

From new developments to service upgrades, we’re embedding sustainability into how we build and manage our homes.

Our new home in Doncaster, for example, uses air source heat pumps to lower emissions and improve energy efficiency – and that’s just the start.

Aligning with global goals

Our environmental and social impact work is aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) – a global blueprint for dignity, equality and sustainability. The goals we focus on include:

  • Promoting good health and wellbeing.
  • Achieving gender equality.
  • Providing quality education.
  • Supporting inclusive economic growth.
  • Taking action on climate change

Real progress, measurable impact

We measure success by outcomes. Through transparent reporting, ESG benchmarking and our annual Impact Report we track progress, highlight impacts and identify opportunities to continually improve.

Together with people we support, team members, families and partners we are building a more inclusive, sustainable and impactful future.

Powered by renewables

All of our homes and services are now powered by 100% certified renewable electricity and gas – significantly cutting our carbon emissions and supporting the UK’s clean energy transition.

Smarter waste, cleaner energy

In 2024, we diverted over 1,100 tonnes of waste from landfill through advanced waste management – with much of that turned to energy.

Our waste-to-energy programme produced enough electricity to power 206 average UK homes for a year.

Investing in low-carbon technology

We’ve started using air source heat pumps in our new developments – including our Doncaster service – reducing our reliance on fossil fuels and lowering emissions in the long term.

Tracking our progress, driving change

Our commitment to sustainability is backed by action – and we’re proud of the impact we’ve made so far.

These outcomes reflect the progress of our environmental strategy and the dedication of the people who help bring it to life.

Cutting carbon emissions

By switching to 100% certified renewable electricity and gas, we’ve prevented the release of thousands of tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere – a major step towards our Ne Zero target.

Diverting waste from landfill

Our waste to energy programme helped us divert more than 1,100 tonnes of waste in 2024 alone – protecting natural resources and reducing environmental harm.

Increasing energy efficiency

With air source heat pumps and energy recovery systems in place across new developments, we’re reducing our reliance on non-renewable energy and improving long-term sustainability.

Always learning. Always improving

We're committed to growing – not just as an organisation, but as a positive force in people’s lives and in the world around us.

That means continually improving our environmental efforts, building on our diversity and inclusion work and holding ourselves to high standards through Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) benchmarking.

These values aren’t just written on paper – they're woven into every part of how we work, lead and grow.

We’ve aligned our work to five of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals – and we report on our progress through our annual impact report.
