September Employee of the month

This month our employee of the month is Ellie Bradshaw, Support Worker at supported living accommodation in North West England. Well done, Ellie!

Ellie has been a Support Worker for several years. Over this time, her work has been praised by her managers, peers and professionals alike. She promotes independence, values everyone, is always encouraging and treats people with respect.

Most notably, Ellie has supported Josie* for many years and has recently been preparing her for a move to a different Achieve together home a short distance away in The Wirral. Josie had formed strong attachments to her home and to the team there. She has a diagnosis of a personality disorder and a mental health condition and the team anticipated that the transition might be very difficult for her.

Thanks to Ellie’s consistent and imaginative support, the transition been brilliant. It is also providing an opportunity for Josie to achieve some dreams and goals. Ellie has travelled further from home each day to support Josie emotionally and to decorate her new flat to feel like home. It’s become a pink Lilo and Stitch paradise, complete with full fluffy cloud sensory ceiling! The pair have done all the work themselves, with Ellie supporting Josie to develop her independence through the project. The ‘dream come true’ ceiling has made Josie feel safe in a calm environment.

Sharing insights

Furthermore, Ellie has committed to informing Josie’s new support team members all about her, completing shadow shifts and supporting her to settle in. She has updated Josie’s paper work to fit the new environment and identified risks new to her.

And that’s not all. Ellie has also managed to build up old friendships and family relationships for Josie to have a closer community network when she moves back into the Wirral area. Josie has also started driving lessons and revising for her theory test, again with positive support and encouragement.

Amazing work, Ellie!

In response to receiving the award, Ellie says: “I’m so pleased to be chosen as September’s Employee of the month! It’s lovely to hear such kind words from management about the support I provide to people we support. I was over the moon when I found out. I have just spent the vouchers on a new laptop!”

Runners up

This month the runners up are Angharad King, Support Worker at supported living near Newport and Neve Madden, Support Worker at supported living accommodation near Pontypool.

A massive well done to Neve, who is new to adult social care yet has taken to her role like a duck to water. She shows a natural ability to support people, always offering a person-centred approach. Recently, Neve worked with the Home Manager to help achieve someone’s goal to take a train ride to another country. She planned the trip with them and supported them to have an amazing experience.

Angharad has recently successfully passed her probation period and is ‘an inspiration to others’. She has been working closely with a person we support focusing on diet and exercise, carefully explaining their importance to health. With Angharad’s support and encouragement, little by little this lady achieved her goal of walking to the local pub. Angharad has also supported her to make some healthier changes to her diet with varied home cooked meals and a menu planner praised by a visiting health professional as ‘one of the best she’s seen.’
