About this home

Woodlands is a residential home supporting adults with learning disabilities, mental health needs and other complex needs. The bespoke support provided centres on individual needs and focuses on developing independence, person-centred life skills, communication, social skills and the individual’s choice.

The experienced team encourage people to take part in a range of activities, including budget planning and support with finances, along with meal planning, preparation and shopping, and household tasks, including laundry and housework. They also support people with planning social and leisure activities, including college, voluntary work, establishing community links, promoting self-advocacy or supporting access to advocacy services.

The team provide continuity and consistency of support by selecting and recruiting support workers chosen with the involvement of those we support and by developing positive relationships getting to know people well.

What we offer

Woodlands can accommodate up to five people in a large detached property over three floors.

There are five large bedrooms, two with en-suite shower rooms, and two communal bathrooms All the rooms are decorated in partnership with people we support to meet their individual tastes.

Woodlands is situated within a small, established community on the edge of the Tamar Valley in Gunnislake, East Cornwall. It comprises a spacious kitchen, dining room, living room and full laundry facilities, all of which are shared communal spaces. Some people chose to cook together and others cook for themselves.

Lifestyle

Those we support here at Woodlands are young adults, all working towards developing their levels of independence and skills.

The team support people to take part in a range of activities in order to build on social and communication skills as well as confidence. These can include going to the local leisure centre to use the pool, gardening, arts and crafts, cooking and bowling, to name a few.

Team members will also support people in the development of independence skills such as meal preparation, budgeting and self-care, as well as obtaining any volunteering and/or paid work.

People are empowered to make decisions about their care and support and are encouraged to contribute to their care plans, through regular consultation for their views on their support and the home.
