About this support setting

Thoughtfully designed for independent living

Wembdon Rise is a residential home supporting adults with autism spectrum conditions, learning disabilities, complex needs including behaviours that may challenge, sight impairment and epilepsy. The home has an extremely friendly and family-orientated approach, which creates a very warm and welcoming environment.

People are supported to develop person-centred plans that promote increased choice, control over their lives and increased independence skills whilst focusing on a PBS approach to reduce everyday anxieties.

The local learning disability team are regular external professionals to the house; services include occupational therapy, speech and language and psychiatry.

The experienced team at Wembdon Rise use a consistent and person-centred approach supporting people to have choice, control and through greater independence, pursue their chosen interests and achieve their goals and aspirations. They have also supported people who live at Wembdon Rise to reduce their medications safely in line with the STOMP pledge.

What we offer

A safe and supportive place

Wembdon Rise is a large property with ten self-contained flats, across three buildings, each with their own facilities so people can explore independent living. There are six large gardens which can be used for leisure activities, especially during summer months.

The house is in an ideal location, and people have easy access to community facilities. This includes the town centre, Bridgewater College, restaurants, the gym and a swimming pool, to name a few. There are also great transport links to surrounding areas, which provide opportunities for a wide range of day trips.

Lifestyle

People at Wembdon Rise lead active lives and take part in a variety of activities that can help increase social and communication skills. Popular activities that take place outside of the house include pottery, swimming, playing pool, cinema trips, group trips to the beach, theme park trips and gym sessions. Bridgewater and Taunton Canal are nearby, and the home is approximately a 30-minute drive from the North Somerset coastline, where people can visit.

We support people in identifying any education, college and/or work placements they wish to obtain and many of the residents are currently signed up to courses at the local college.

We continue to support a high number of people who have come from failed placements due to the nature of the support they need. We have successfully supported three people to venture out into their community after several months, and in one case years, of not doing so.
