Thoughtfully designed for independent living
Highbury House is a large, detached house located in Wem on the outskirts of Shrewsbury for adults with autism spectrum conditions, moderate and severe learning disabilities and complex needs, including behaviours that may challenge.
The home aims to provide each person with the opportunity to maximise their potential and to be valued and contributing members of the local community. A person-centred planning approach is used, tailoring support towards individual needs and supporting people in becoming as independent as possible by focusing on positive outcomes. People are supported to take part in meaningful activities that enrich their lives and build on both new and existing skills.

What we offer
A safe and supportive place
Highbury House is a large, detached property which was converted from a previous residential dwelling. It has five bedrooms, all with en-suite facilities. A purpose-built extension has recently been completed, comprising of a new bedroom to accommodate people we support with physical disabilities.
There is wifi available for residents, as well as satellite TV.
Highbury House is close to a train station, the local leisure centre, pubs and shops, so people easily have access to local community facilities. The local town of Wem is a market town halfway between Crewe and Shrewsbury. Barra is located close to Wem Station and is a short walk to Wem town centre and all its attractions, including museums, pubs, restaurants and sports clubs.

Highbury House supports people to access a wide range of activities, including budget planning and finances, meal planning, shopping and household tasks, establishing community links and promoting self-advocacy and support in accessing health services.
People can also take part in leisure activities such as art classes, exercise classes and coffee mornings that are held weekly, so there is never a shortage of things to do.
The service often holds social events for people to take part in, such as when we joined together with other services for a tea party. There was a range of snacks and cakes, as well as a performance from the Shrewsbury localities’ Makaton choir. Everyone across the services thoroughly enjoyed the day.
