About this support setting

Thoughtfully designed for independent living

Garthowen is a residential home for adults with learning disabilities, dementia, physical difficulties, epilepsy and/or communication issues. The service also provides palliative and end-of-life care with a focus on privacy, dignity and respect.

The home provides support to individuals whilst working alongside health and social care professionals to ensure people have access to specialist expertise as required, such as psychiatry, behavioural management and occupational therapy. A person-centred planning approach is used, tailored towards the individual and focused on positive outcomes. People are also supported to access the community and take part in leisure activities that enrich their daily lives.

What we offer

A safe and supportive place

Garthowen is a spacious country house situated in its own grounds surrounded by woodlands. It has 8 bedrooms spread across two floors, with bathrooms and wet rooms on both floors. All bedrooms can be decorated to personal preference and have relevant facilities for individual needs.

Additionally, there are communal areas where people can socialise, including a living room, kitchen, conservatory and garden space. The interior of the home is a fully adapted environment with aids, hoists and a shaft lift, so it is accessible for those with reduced mobility.

Surrounded by countryside, individuals can enjoy the outdoor space, which is complete with wide paths and an outdoor seating area which is accessible to wheelchair users.

Lifestyle

At Garthowen individuals are supported to take part in leisure activities, with people enjoying gardening, walks in the surrounding woodland, cookery, picnics, going to the cinema, day trips to the zoo and visiting the local farmers market to name a few.

Many people have gained confidence through developing communication and social skills, and one individual recently won an award for being the most inspirational individual, which was a great achievement.

The ideal location means individuals have access to surrounding community facilities, and the coast is only a short drive away.
