Valleyview Residential Home Commended for Excellence in Care with Overall ‘Outstanding’ CQC Rating
Achieve together’s residential home Valleyview in Swadlincote, Derbyshire, has been recognised for its exceptional level of care with an ‘Outstanding’ rating in its latest inspection report from the Care Quality Commission.
Valleyview is a small residential home supporting people with profound and multiple learning disabilities. It is the second Achieve together home to receive an ‘Outstanding’ rating this year, following from its sister home Highfields, also in Swadlincote, which received ‘Outstanding’ last month (March 2026).
The CQC inspector praised Valleyview for exceptional and inspiring leadership, inclusive and person-centred care, and treating individuals with dignity and respect, ensuring they feel safe and valued. The team at Valleyview know residents ‘extremely well’ and they work hard to understand the needs of the most vulnerable people, by adapting care plans to meet changing needs, and tailoring communication with ‘exceptional skill’ to support individuals to make informed, autonomous choices through nonverbal cues.
The report also highlighted how team members have the right skill and knowledge to meet the complex needs of people who live at Valleyview, consistently delivering inclusive care with dignity and respect, ensuring people feel safe and valued.
In the CQC report, a relative of a person supported at Valleyview says: “The team here are so responsive to (my relative’s) needs. Interactions with (my relative) are genuine, warm and respectful.’
Another relative says: “It feels like the team members are an extension of our family. We know that they love and care for our relative. We know their safety is top priority with all the staff at Valleyview.”
The report also highlighted how people are cared for in the most appropriate and least restrictive way, and how people at Valleyview are supported to spend time engaged in meaningful, choice-led activities that they enjoy, both in the home and in the local community.
Zak Houlahan, Chief Executive of Achieve together says: “This result is fantastic and inspiring. The team at Valleyview are exceptional. They have set a standard and example for us all to follow in putting people we support at the centre of every aspect of life at Valleyview. Thank you to all of you.”
Zoe Armstrong, Chief Care and Quality Officer says: “This record‑setting accomplishment reflects an exceptional commitment to delivering an outstanding quality of life for the people we support. I am incredibly proud of this team. Their dedication, professionalism, and compassion are nothing short of extraordinary. Thank you for everything you do.”
Rachael Mossie, Registered Home Manager at Valleyview and at Highfields, says: “We are delighted that we have achieved this result. As a team we are determined that people we support reap the benefits of the best possible care. This result is for them, their families and my team who all make Valleyview a warm, happy place to live.”
