Opened in 2025, The Third Space was created to support the wellbeing, independence and personal development of people supported by Achieve together across Sussex. Since then, it has become a valued community hub, providing opportunities for people to connect, learn new skills and enjoy activities in a fully accessible environment.

Now, community groups, charities, support organisations and care providers across Brighton and Sussex can also access the facilities.

Located at 287 Dyke Road, Brighton, The Third Space includes a newly renovated specialist hydrotherapy pool, which reopened following extensive refurbishment works, designed to support physical wellbeing, mobility and relaxation, alongside a flexible activity space that can be used for workshops, training sessions, support groups and inclusive community events.

The purpose-built facility has been carefully designed to ensure people of all abilities feel welcome, comfortable and supported. The warm water hydrotherapy pool has been created to support relaxation, movement and sensory regulation and wellbeing for people with a wide range of physical, sensory and cognitive needs.

Vicky Attenborough, Operations Director – South, Achieve together, said:  “We’re delighted to open The Third Space to the wider Brighton and wider Sussex community. From the outset, we wanted to create a space where people could come together, build connections and access opportunities that support their health and wellbeing.

“We’ve seen first-hand the positive difference the hydrotherapy pool and activity space have made to people we support. By opening bookings to community organisations, we hope even more people can benefit from this unique and inclusive facility.”

The launch reflects Achieve together’s ongoing commitment to helping people live happy, healthy and meaningful lives. Through person-centred support and strong community partnerships, Achieve together empowers people to build confidence, develop independence and achieve their goals.

The Third Space is available for hydrotherapy and wellbeing sessions, support groups, inclusive activities, training events and community gatherings, providing access to specialist facilities that can make a real difference to people’s lives.

Laurie Finn, Registered Home Manager, Achieve together, said:  “Having worked for Achieve together for more than 25 years, I’ve seen first-hand the life-changing impact hydrotherapy can have for people with profound and multiple learning disabilities. I was the Day Service and Pool Manager between 2000 and 2011, so it has been particularly rewarding to be involved in bringing this specialist facility back to life.”

“The hydrotherapy pool itself was originally built in 1985 and operated successfully for many years before closing during the pandemic in 2020. Throughout 2025, we carried out extensive renovations, including a new roof and flooring, redesigned changing facilities and hoisting equipment, and a brand-new plant room featuring advanced technology to ensure precise water quality management.

“I’m thrilled to be part of this project and to see this invaluable resource open to the wider community. The pool and activity space offer a safe, accessible and welcoming environment where people can improve their physical wellbeing, build confidence and enjoy meaningful experiences.”

Achieve together continues to grow, providing sector-leading, complex, specialist support to people with learning disabilities, autism, people with profound and multiple learning disabilities (PMLD), mental health needs, and those who are D/deaf, or have hearing loss.
