Ewelina is a fellow manager in the same area of East Sussex as Romulo. She says: “Romulo’s practice stands out as a beacon of excellence in the support of people with profound and multiple learning disabilities. By observing his innovative approaches and the engaging activities he implements, I have learned crucial strategies to improve the home that I manage.

“He consistently thinks of new ways to ensure that people with profound and multiple learning disabilities can participate fully in life and reach their potential. He has an unwavering commitment to improving their quality of life.”

Mentoring and advice

Romulo took the time to guide Ewelina when she first started in her role, demonstrating how to truly enhance the lives of people she supports. She knows that she can ask his advice and he will always help.

He has a knack of inducing those around him to strive for excellence. Consequently, they have developed a healthy competition in constantly challenging each other to come up with more engaging and meaningful activities for people they support.

“One of the most telling indicators of Romulo’s leadership is the stability of his team,” comments Ewelina. “With minimal turnover and a core group of team members who have worked with him for many years, it’s clear that he creates a positive and supportive work environment. This team consistency directly contributes to the quality of support provided.”

Ewelina continues: “Rom exemplifies the qualities of an outstanding manager. His expertise, leadership, innovation, and dedication have not only improved the lives of those directly under his care but have also raised the standard across our area as we all can strive to provide level of engagement and activities that he does at Dyke Road.”

In response to winning, Romulo said: “This award reminds me why I do what I do: to create an environment where the people we support feel valued, respected, and empowered to thrive. It’s a privilege to contribute to their journey and witness their achievements, no matter how big or small.”
