Meet Jessica: Making dreams come true
Jessica moved into her new home three years ago. When she first moved in, she was struggling with her mental health and everyday tasks often felt difficult. Getting out and about also felt like a big step, and leaving the house was a challenge she wanted to overcome in her own time.
With gentle encouragement and reassurance from the team, Jessica slowly began to build trust, share her interests and talk about the things that mattered to her. This gave team members a better understanding of how to support Jessica, helping her feel listened to, valued and more confident taking small steps forward.

First Steps
As team members got to know Jessica, they learned more about the things she enjoys, including latch hook, diamond art, colouring and reading. These creative hobbies have become a positive part of her routine, giving her time to relax, focus and enjoy doing something she loves.
Jessica also enjoys spending quiet time with a good book. Team members take an interest in what she is reading and enjoy talking with her about the stories and themes, helping to build positive conversations around shared interests.
As Jessica began to share more about her goals, she spoke about wanting to complete a skydive and raise money for a new TV for the shared lounge. Team members helped her bring these ideas together and supported her to start planning the fundraiser.
Ongoing Support
Team members supported Jessica while she planned her skydive and took part alongside her on the day. To help her feel prepared, they showed her videos, talked her through the process and explained what would happen on the day, so she knew what to expect. Their encouragement helped Jessica feel reassured and confident to take on a challenge that meant so much to her.
The team are also helping Jessica build her confidence with going out again, starting with short local walks. These walks are helping to build her stamina and fitness, while also supporting her mental health and personal goals. This could include going for a coffee, doing a little shopping, or simply enjoying some fresh air at a pace that feels right for her.
Jessica’s Progress

Jessica recently made one of her dreams come true by completing a skydive, raising enough money to purchase a new TV for the shared lounge. It was an incredible achievement and has already brought so much joy to the home, giving everyone more opportunities to enjoy movie nights, favourite programmes and relaxed time together.
At the heart of our approach is person-centred care. This allows us to tap into people’s dreams and aspirations and help make them a reality. The team took the time to understand what mattered most to Jessica, listened to her goals and found ways to help her achieve them.
When Jessica shared that she wanted to feel more confident with swimming, the team supported her to explore local pool sessions and put a plan in place that felt right for her. A female team member attended the leisure centre with Jessica, helping her feel comfortable and reassured as she built her confidence in the water at her own pace. Through encouragement, kindness and belief in what she can achieve, the team helped Jessica take meaningful steps towards making more of her dreams come true.
Looking to the Future
Jessica is already thinking about doing another skydive with support from team members, simply for the fun of it. She is also building her confidence when swimming, with the support from a female team member and exploring the possibility of attending group sessions when she feels ready. It is wonderful to see Jessica looking ahead and thinking about the next things she would like to try.
Jessica’s thoughts:
“It was great fun and I would love to do it all again”.
Home manager’s thoughts:
“Jessica is incredibly brave and has made everyone she lives with very proud; she completed the fundraiser and was able to buy a TV for the communal lounge”.
