Meet Freddie: Growing in confidence and independence at home
Freddie lived at home with his mum until he was 17. When it became increasingly difficult for her to support his needs on her own, he spent several years at a different Supported Living home before moving to our Supported Living home based in Hillingdon in May 2011. At the time, Freddie sometimes expressed some behaviours that may challenge, however with the right support, patience, and a better understanding of his needs and wishes, these soon settled.
First Steps
Freddie was the first person to move into his new home, which gave him time to settle in at his own pace and build positive relationships with the team. As the team got to know Freddie, including his likes, dislikes, and the best ways to support him, there was a clear reduction in any behaviours that may have challenged. Over time, other people moved in and Freddie gradually built friendships with everyone.
Ongoing Support
Freddie continues to enjoy living in his home, where he is supported with personal care, attending health appointments, and preparing his meals. He likes choosing what he would like for dinner and enjoys going shopping to pick out his food. The team often encourage Freddie to make balanced choices and support him to build his independence by helping with food preparation, putting his clothes away, and making his bed.
Freddie’s Progress
Since moving into our supported living home in Hillingdon, Freddie has made steady progress. With consistent support and a dedicated team around him who truly understand his needs, he has grown in confidence, become more settled, and built strong relationships with the team and people he lives with. Freddie has also developed more independence in everyday routines and continues to enjoy a happy and fulfilling life at home.
Looking to the future
Freddie enjoys his time with the team and other people he lives with so much, that he would like to stay there forever! In addition to this, Freddie is very excited about an upcoming holiday to Weymouth which he is eager to go on! One of Freddie’s favourite activities is going on holiday, especially if it involves a caravan or a stroll across the beach!
