About this support setting

Thoughtfully designed for independent living

Woodlands is a residential home dedicated to supporting adults with learning disabilities, mental health needs, and other complex needs. Our bespoke support is centred on individual needs, focusing on developing independence, person-centred life skills, communication, social skills, and personal choice.

Our experienced team encourages people supported to participate in various activities, including budget planning and financial support, meal planning, preparation and shopping, and household tasks such as laundry and housework. We also assist individuals in planning social and leisure activities, attending college, engaging in voluntary work, establishing community links, promoting self-advocacy, and accessing advocacy services.

To ensure continuity and consistency of support, we involve people supported in selecting and recruiting their support workers. This approach helps build positive relationships and allows our team to get to know each person well, providing tailored and effective support.

What we offer

A safe and supportive place

Woodlands is a residential home that can accommodate up to five adults in a spacious detached property spanning three floors. The home features five large bedrooms, two of which have en-suite shower rooms, along with two communal bathrooms. Each room is decorated in partnership with people we support to reflect their personal tastes.

Situated within a small, established community on the edge of the Tamar Valley in Gunnislake, East Cornwall, Woodlands offers a serene yet connected living environment. The property boasts a spacious kitchen, dining room, living room, and full laundry facilities, all of which are communal spaces. People supported have the flexibility to choose whether they want to cook together or independently.

The dedicated team at Woodlands encourages people supported to develop their independence and life skills through a variety of activities, including budget planning, meal preparation, and household tasks. We also support people in planning social and leisure activities, attending college, engaging in voluntary work, and establishing community links. Our approach promotes self-advocacy and includes access to advocacy services to ensure that each person’s voice is heard and respected.

Continuity and consistency of support are achieved by involving people supported in the selection and recruitment of their support workers. This personalised approach helps build strong, positive relationships, ensuring that each person’s needs and preferences are thoroughly understood and met

Lifestyle

At Woodlands, we support young adults who are actively working towards increasing their levels of independence and developing essential skills. Our dedicated team encourages participation in a variety of activities designed to enhance social and communication skills, as well as build confidence. These activities include visits to the local leisure centre for swimming, gardening, arts and crafts, cooking, and bowling, among others.

In addition to recreational activities, our team members assist people supported in developing key independence skills such as meal preparation, budgeting, and self-care. We also support individuals in finding and securing volunteering opportunities and paid employment, helping them to gain valuable work experience and further their personal growth.

Empowerment and choice are central to our approach at Woodlands. We encourage people supported to make decisions about their care and support, actively involving them in the creation and regular review of their care plans. Through ongoing consultations, we ensure that their views and preferences are heard and respected, fostering a collaborative and supportive environment.
