About this support setting

Thoughtfully designed for independent living

Discover more about our 13-bedroom supported living home offering specialist support for adults with learning disabilities and mental health challenges.

Our aim as a support team is to empower people we support to be more independent and to play an active part in the community. We support people to pursue education or voluntary employment, to maintain their relationships with friends and family and to enjoy a variety of social activities.

We also provide an outreach service for people living in the community – some of them are people we used to support at the home who have moved on to more independent living.

This home’s profile number is 520.

What we offer

A safe and supportive place

This home is based around an old windmill – hence the home’s name. The windmill was built in 1826, and many of the original building’s features have been incorporated into the individual flats. This makes every flat unique.

The home has six self-contained one-bedroom flats, two two-bedroom flats and one three-bedroom shared house. Some of the flats have their own private patio or garden. The home also has a shared room where people can get together to socialise, play pool, or have meetings. There’s also a large shared courtyard/garden space for barbecues and even growing your own veg!

Lifestyle

In the small village of Gayton, some seven miles from King’s Lynn, the home itself has a strong community atmosphere. People we support enjoy using our games room to play pool, table tennis and air hockey. We hold weekly games, tournaments, bingo and quizzes for people we support. Things can get pretty competitive!

We often host barbecues, picnics and quiz nights in the garden during the summer. One person we support has a greenhouse where they grow their own produce, and we have a regular gardening club which is attended by lots of keen gardeners.

Opposite the home is a friendly pub, where people we support like to go to enjoy a tasty pub meal. There’s a local butcher, post office and shop in walking distance, plus various takeaways.

People we support like to play ball games in the large playing field close by or enjoy a walk in the local park. Keen churchgoers attend the beautiful village church of St Nicholas. Gayton also has a village hall and social club, which hosts events throughout the year.

Local bus services go to the historic town of King’s Lynn, where you’ll find different shops, restaurants, a museum, the Majestic Cinema and the Corn Exchange, which puts on regular shows and events. We’re also a 30-minute drive from the coastal town of Hunstanton, where we often spend summer days together.
