More about our approach to quality and safeguardingAbout this home
Thoughtfully designed homes for independent living
Mulberry House is a specialist residential home, without nursing, in Walsall, West Midlands, that provides 24-hour support to six adults who are deaf or deafblind. We support people who may have issues with their mental health who experience periods of emotional stress or behavioural difficulties. The home offers a stepping stone to more independent living, but everything is done at each person’s pace.
While people we support often have a high level of need when they first join us, as they progress through their programme of development, our team supports them to gain confidence and skills so that, one day, they may no longer need to live in a residential home.

What we offer
A safe and supportive place to call home
Mulberry House was opened by HRH Princess Diana in 1986 and is close to local amenities, including a park, swimming pool, college, library, shops, pubs, restaurants and an art gallery. There is a vibrant local deaf community, and the local Deaf Centre is only a few minutes walk from the home.
Mulberry House has six fully self-contained flats, providing people we support with a feeling of independence within the safety of a residential environment. A communal kitchen and lounge and a large shared garden provide welcoming spaces for relaxing and socialising with friends and family. The home also has the use of a vehicle for outings and appointments.
We’re not just participants. We’re planners, presenters, and leaders.

Lifestyle
A number of the Mulberry House team are deaf themselves and are dedicated to supporting people to fulfil their aims. The team empowers people we support to make healthy lifestyle choices, manage their medication, develop their cookery skills or get involved in local community groups – whatever they choose to do.
Every person has a care and support plan that’s personalised to their unique needs, preferences and aims. This is regularly reviewed with each person and their family or support network. Every person we support is encouraged to play a part in how Mulberry House is run too.
We work closely with mental health and healthcare teams in the community to ensure people we support have every opportunity to succeed in their journey to independence.
