More about our approach to quality and safeguardingAbout this home
Thoughtfully designed homes for independent living
Valley Road is a specialist residential home dedicated to supporting adults with diverse needs, including learning disabilities, mental health challenges, behaviors that may challenge, and dementia. The home has made significant strides in providing tailored support and fostering a nurturing environment.
Notable achievements include the development of a purpose-built annexe for a person supported with challenging behaviors, resulting in two incident-free years. The home has also fostered strong partnerships with the local Health Team for effective crisis management and enabled people supported to extend their stay beyond previous home durations.
Valley Road has worked diligently to create a homely atmosphere, moving away from traditional “care home” environments. Recent redecoration in 2023 includes autism-friendly colors to ensure a calming environment. The home features a sensory area for people supported needing time away from the main lounge. Positive feedback from external professionals highlights the exceptional dedication and passion of the team members. Valley Road has successfully supported people in crisis, breaking the cycle of hospital admissions, and now celebrates achievements with a special Achievement Tree recognising people supporteds progress and contributions.

Lifestyle
At Valley Road, people supported engage in a variety of activities designed to enhance their independence. People supported regularly enjoy trips to the nearby beach and the New Forest, which is just a short walk away. One person frequently attends the gym, while two others regularly visit day centres.
The support team focuses on fostering independence by helping people supported develop essential life skills such as cooking, cleaning, meal preparation, and budgeting. This approach aims to reduce the need for 1:1 support hours.
Additionally, 1:1 support is available for accessing community activities like day services, cinema trips, and bowling. Daily activities, both in-home and in the community, are tailored to promote independence and skill development.
