Celebrating Durlston House’s Good CQC rating
We’re incredibly proud our dedicated team at Durlston House in Trowbridge, Wiltshire, whose hard work and commitment have been recognised with a Care Quality Commission (CQC) ‘Good’ rating following a previous rating of ‘Requires Improvement’.
Durlston House is one of our residential homes, providing supportive independent living for people with Autism, Learning Disabilities, and behaviours that may challenge. The team is passionate about creating a warm, welcoming, and nurturing environment where people feel safe, valued, and encouraged to live as independently as possible. They focus on promoting choice, building confidence, and supporting meaningful social connections, while always offering compassionate and person-centred care.
Inspectors praised the home’s strong leadership and open and honest culture, and its commitment to “always treating people with kindness, empathy, compassion and respect”.
Relatives of the people we support also shared positive feedback
One relative said:
“The staff always listen to us and will act upon any requests or concerns we have, which gives us a lot of confidence in them.”
The report also highlighted the home’s person-centred approach, recognising the way the team supports individual needs and works closely with both the people we support and their families when planning care, activities and personal preferences.
Another relative included:
“[My relative] likes going on walks and being out and about. On a weekly basis they go for walks, go to the cinema, pub for lunch. Within the home [my relative] is very keen in taking part in arts and crafts activities and they are supported by staff to do this.”
Home Manager, Abbie Castelli:
“We are absolutely delighted to have achieved a Good CQC rating, and I couldn’t be prouder of the dedication and excellence shown by the entire team throughout this journey. Safe, caring, person-centred support is at the heart of everything we do. Our team has worked incredibly hard to create a positive, supportive environment here and it is wonderful to see that recognised by CQC and through such encouraging feedback from families in the report.”
Zak Houlahan, Chief Executive of Achieve together, said:
“Moving from Requires Improvement to Good is a significant achievement and reflects a sustained focus on improvement. Thank you to the team at Durlston House, but also to the wider community hub, for the commitment, collaboration and consistency that has made this possible. Well done to everyone involved and thank you for the dedication and hard work that has led to this result.”
