Bringing people together for our Athletics Championship 2026
More than 150 people came together yesterday for our annual Athletics Championship at the David Weir Leisure Centre in Carshalton.
The event brought together people we support, team members and family members from across England and Wales for a day of inclusive sport, friendly competition and celebration.
Now in its sixteenth year, the Championship is designed to ensure there is something for everyone to enjoy, regardless of sporting experience, interests or abilities. Events included running races, accessible cycling, badminton, high jump, long jump, javelin, sumo wrestling and tug of war.
The Mayor of Sutton, Councillor Muhammad Sadiq, attended the event and presented medals to competitors in recognition of their achievements throughout the day.
Paralympian and Team Wales Commonwealth Games Captain Olivia Breen was also in attendance, helping to cheer on competitors and present medals. Olivia competes for Wales and Great Britain in T38 sprint and F38 long jump events, as well as the T35-T38 4x100m relay. She won bronze medals at both the London 2012 and Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.
Fresh from a successful Commonwealth Games campaign in Glasgow last month, Olivia recently secured silver in the T38 100m final and gold in the T38 long jump competition.
The annual Championship forms part of our commitment to supporting people to live happy, healthy and meaningful lives. It provides opportunities to build confidence, develop friendships, try new activities and celebrate personal achievements.
