Black History Month 2026: Celebrating Culture, Community and Lived Experience

October marks Black History Month, a time to celebrate the achievements, contributions and experiences of Black people, while creating opportunities to learn, reflect and have meaningful conversations together.

Throughout the month, we have a lot planned for our team members and the people we support, including stories, resources, events and lived experiences designed to raise awareness and celebrate diversity. It’s an opportunity to learn something new, share own experiences, celebrate culture or simply join the conversation.

What’s happening this month?

Week 1: Understanding & Awareness

We’ll begin the month by exploring the rich diversity of cultures, traditions and faiths that exist within our communities. Our very own Learning and Development Facilitator, Henna Pervez, will be hosting Culture & Faith – Stories that connect us, a session that will explore these very themes.

Week 2: Community & Resources

Our annual Black History Month celebration event takes place on 12 October. We’ll be sharing photos and stories from the event throughout the week.

Week 3: Recognition & Advocacy

This week we’ll shine a light on influential Black pioneers whose achievements, leadership and advocacy have shaped history and continue to inspire change today. During this week, we’ll share a range of resources for those who would like to learn more, explore important stories and deepen their understanding.

Week 4: Conversation & Lived Experience

Fabian Morgan, Head of Area Operations, will facilitate a special internal interactive session, My Black Experience, creating a safe space for people to share their lived experiences, ask questions, listen, learn and engage in open discussion.

We’ll also feature a special #thisisme spotlight, celebrating the story and experiences of one of our team members and the unique perspective they bring to our organisation.

Looking ahead

At the end of October, we’ll share a special round-up highlighting some of the fantastic celebrations, stories and contributions from teams and homes across the organisation, alongside reflections from our events.

Together, let’s use Black History Month as an opportunity to celebrate, learn, listen and continue building an organisation where everyone feels valued, respected and empowered to be themselves.
