August Manager of the Month

Colin Jull, Home Manager at Highdowns in Cornwall is the winner of our Manager of the Month award

Colin received a huge number of glowing nominations from his team members who are clearly very thankful for his continued support and leadership. They speak of his upbeat personality, hard work, grit and determination. One said: “Colin is a good manager when things are going well but Colin is a great manager when times are tough.”

Always kind, Colin listens and actively cares about his team and the people living at Highdowns, spreading smiles and laughter. Many team members mention Colin’s positivity in facing challenges – covid and, this year, the death of two people supported at Highdowns. He ensured that, during this difficult time, friends and team received the support they needed.

A Support Worker in his team recalls: “He kept a smile on all our faces, people we support and the team, during a time when there really wasn’t much to smile about for any of us.”

Added to this he has just steered the home through a CQC inspection.

‘New normal’

Determined to get everyone back to a new normal after the pandemic, Colin has motivated the team and people supported to access the community again, starting with building confidence. They are now enjoying new experiences and meeting new people as well as old friends near and far.

Last but not least, several nominations mention Colin’s singing – let’s just say it seems to be legendary!

“I would like to say it is honour to receive the Manager of the Month Award and massive appreciation for all that voted for me,” says Colin. “Being a Home Manager brings many challenges and stressors, but to know that I have a great supportive team behind me is so rewarding and comforting.

“Working as a team to achieve great outcomes for people we support is what we all strive for, and that drive should never stop. We have been through our challenges together and we have adapted every time. I have always said that a manager is only as good as their team, and we have a great one.”
