A Colourful Journey: Vicky’s Story

Vicky Smith is a true creative force whose journey is as vibrant as her artwork. Supported by the Brighton Community Outreach Team, Vicky is a cherished part of the community—not just through her art, but through the energy, humour, and kindness she brings wherever she goes.

Vicky played a leading role in transforming the support office at Brighton Community Outreach into a welcoming, imaginative space.

From designing a magical winter wonderland to helping people reflect through a thoughtful “remembering tree” sensory afternoon, Vicky’s touch has brought colour and meaning to countless moments.

Vicky’s creativity isn’t just impressive—it’s deeply personal. Her art, she says, has grown “from dull to a proper artist.” Her favourite pieces often feature cats and creative collages, made entirely from scratch. “It makes me feel great and it also inspires me,” she says. “I am a legendary old school with my integrity.”

Whether she’s planning a VE Day celebration or dreaming of having her story in the history books, Vicky is a shining example of how creativity can build confidence, community, and joy.

Vicky’s Support Worker, Hannah, says of Vicky:

“She is a caring person who is always asking about how staff’s pets are and letting me know when my cats have got married. She is great at thinking up creative ideas. There is never a dull moment with Vicky around.”

While, her Key Worker, Patience, says:

“Vicky enjoys being supported by staff members from the older generations and she calls us the ‘old school’. Vicky also speaks about how she learnt from her mistakes during her youth. One of her favourite phrased is ‘We, the older generation learnt the hard way.’ “
