Kevin Taylor
Head of Forensic Mental Health
Kevin started his Mental Health nurse training over 40 years ago walking through the gates of Broadmoor Hospital at just 19 years of age. After working almost 20 years between Broadmoor and then Ashworth hospitals he joined the staff at HMP Liverpool as a Prison Nurse and also gained experience as a Hospital Manager and a Teacher Trainer. He now heads up our mental health provision mentoring team members and helping the people we support to lead full and meaningful lives.
After working in many hospital settings, I joined a start up company with the intention of providing a community solution for people that had become ‘stuck’ in hospitals. And I’ve been trying to do that ever since. I have pretty much dedicated my career to seeing the person behind the event and have tried to educate team members to the fact that anyone is capable of committing a crime under certain circumstances. What we should be trying to discover is the distress that took someone to that point in life in attempt to stop that behaviour repeating.
The same goes for the suicide prevention work. I am a firm believer that there is nothing overly complicated in care; treat people with dignity and respect, provide great accommodation, meaningful occupational and recreational activity and increase a persons circle of socialisation and that will provide for a fulfilled happy life.
