Congratulations to Amy-Jane Barry, Support Worker at our Supported Living Home in Camberley, recognised for her empathy, advocacy and problem-solving skills that improved a recent medical experience for a person we support.
Amy-Jane recently displayed true advocacy for a person we support when they required an urgent medical procedure. Amy-Jane worked closely with the person we support in the run up to their appointment, maintaining constant communication with medical professionals, arranging reasonable adjustments and helping the person we support put together a menu plan to alleviate stress.
Unfortunately, the day of the procedure, the team were informed that it was cancelled. Amy-Jane was able to liaise directly with the medical team and managed to find a solution to the problem, which meant that the procedure went ahead as planned, just a few hours late.
Amy-Jane made sure that a friendly face was the first thing the person supported saw once the procedure was complete, waiting for him in the recovery room to ensure all went well. Her empathy, determination and advocacy hugely improved the overall experience and ensured the person we support had a positive outlook for any possible future procedures.
Upon nominating Amy-Jane, Kylie Oakden, Supported Living Manager, said: “Amy-Jane made a very clear and important difference to this young man and his family.”
Congratulations, Amy-Jane, and thank you for #ValuingEveryone and #MakingThingsHappen.
