About this home

Watery Lane Cottage is a specialist residential home, without nursing, in Bath that provides 24-hour one-to-one support to three adults who are deafblind with additional complex needs, including physical and learning disabilities. People we support may also have experienced previous placement breakdowns due to their complex needs.

The team at the home provides person-centred care, which enables each person we support to live an active, meaningful and independent life. While Watery Lane Cottage can provide a home for life, we support people to be as independent as possible and always according to their abilities. Communication is key for people we support, and we use a variety of creative methods to ensure we’re communicating effectively.

What we offer

Our lovely, purpose-built bungalow is fully wheelchair accessible and has three bedrooms, all with en-suite bathrooms. All bedrooms and bathrooms have support rails and specialist equipment such as walk-in showers, hydraulic baths and emergency pull cords. There is a spacious, open-plan living, dining and kitchen area, a garden with raised vegetable beds, patio, summer house and lawn.

Watery Lane Cottage is in the grounds of Poolemead House in the Twerton area of Bath, and everyone is welcome to use the facilities at Poolemead, including its spacious gardens, a jacuzzi and a coffee lounge.

Twerton has good local facilities and is just three miles from the centre of Bath. There’s an excellent bus service to the city centre where there’s an array of shops, cinemas, restaurants, pubs and cafés as well as train and coach links around the UK.

Lifestyle

The team at Watery Lane Cottage gets to know each person we support extremely well. Each person’s needs, interests, preferences and goals are captured in a support plan so that everyone knows how to support them to live a meaningful life.

People are empowered to live as independently as possible, using a variety of techniques to communicate with each person in their preferred way, including the Deafblind Manual Alphabet and objects of reference on tactile boards. People make decisions about their activities and routines, personal care, appearance, how they want their room decorated, and the food they like.

The team supports everyone to develop their daily living skills and enjoy a variety of activities too, including woodwork, horse riding and art. We’ve supported people to visit theme parks and enjoy holidays and much more.
