Thoughtfully designed for independent living

Penny Meadow Life skills centre in Colchester offers practical and skills based workshops focused on life skills, confidence building, community engagement and employment skills, as well as other
ASDAN accredited and practical courses.

Penny Meadow is passionate about providing an exciting and inspiring environment in which people are supported and nurtured to reach their full potential and achieve their goals.

Our highly skilled and dedicated team delivers both community based workshops and activities which enable people to build and develop the practical, social and communication skills needed to enjoy being an active member of their local community.

We are dedicated to empowering people, enabling them to develop skills for life and healthy relationships, as well as boosting their confidence and self-esteem.

Our staff team are constantly looking for new and exciting opportunities for the people we support and ways we can develop and improve what Penny Meadow has to offer.

What we offer

A safe and supportive place

Our spacious and well equipped day service building includes:

• Communal space – this space has tables and sofas, ideal for catching up with friends over a cup of coffee.
• Teaching Kitchen — where people are supported to make and prepare simple meals.
• Relaxation Pod — this quiet space is for people to relax, unwind and listen to music.
• Craft hub — this is a creative space for painting, arts and crafts with a variety of resources to choose from.
• Wood Workshop – equipped with hand and power tools where groups of people are supported to build and create bespoke wooden pieces.
• Leaning & Teaching space – this area allows people to undertake accredited courses and workshops in a variety of independent living and work skills.
• Sports and Games hall — we offer a variety of sports and fitness sessions throughout the week, with on site sports equipment to support all types of team building games and challenges.
• Allotment — we have a well established peace garden on site with growing beds, and an off site allotment to support with green fingered activities.
• Woodland — we are lucky to have our own woodland on site which allows us to take part in forest schools and woodland activities including campsite, cooking and den building.
• Outside area — we have a large outside grass area where we are able to offer sports days and games, nature explorer award, BBQ’s and team building activities.
• Community facilities — off site we access local sports centres, swimming pools, nature trails, shops and retail parks and community events.

Lifestyle

We offer a wide variety of Practical Workshops and accredited courses within Penny Meadow to support the development of life skills, independent living skills and work related training.

Many of our courses are accredited by ASDAN

• Independent living skills — meal preparation and cooking, shopping and budgeting, looking after your home, using money.
• Work related skills — mini enterprise projects, car maintenance and valeting, community stall, work
experience opportunities, preparing for work.
• Being healthy – dance workshops, trampolining, swimming, team games and sports, healthy living skills
• Creativity – drama, music, arts and crafts, creative baking, woodland workshops, woodwork, textiles,
performing arts.
• Communication and social skills – social Saturdays, relaxation pod, work experience and volunteering, wellbeing workshops, you say, we listen groups.
