People at Wren Park lead active lives and take part in a variety of activities that help them increase social skills as well as confidence.

Some individuals recently joined a football team with members from other services. The men, whose ages range from 24 to 64, compete in the South London Special League, which provides opportunities through sport for young people with disabilities to improve their lives, increase fitness and raise their self-esteem. They take part in weekly training sessions and fortnightly matches played at the London Marathon Playing Fields at Shooters Hill.

The service holds many social events throughout the year, such as a coffee morning raising money for Macmillan cancer research where they had tea, hot chocolate and a lot of cake. There was also a recent impromptu party and water fight, as well as their annual Halloween party where everyone dresses up.

At Wren Park, we actively encourage people to be independent and support them in obtaining any work and/or education placements. One individual has just completed a 2-year carpentry course (level 1+2), Maths and English, and has passed them all. This has given them the confidence to apply for jobs. The neuro team helped him put together a CV, and he has just been offered an interview as a trainee chef.

Another person has achieved a BTEC level 1 in Sports Coaching which means they can now coach in various sports. This was a great achievement and step towards independence.
