Rivendell is one of our Supported Living homes which caters for people with mental health, autism spectrum conditions, emotional needs and learning disabilities.
In the interview below, Zoe, who lives at Rivendell, shares how her life and mental health have improved, thanks to the help of her team:
Hi Zoe, how long have you lived at Rivendell for?
I’ve lived here now for nearly 2 years.
How old are you?
Is this your first supported living home?
No, this is my second home in the supported living setting.
How has your life improved since living at Rivendell?
Since moving into Rivendell, I have gained new friends and new friendships with staff. And since living at Rivendell I have become more independent with doing my laundry, microwave meals, cleaning my vivarium out and feeding my lizard.
Rivendell have made me who I am today and I’m grateful for all the staff’s help!
Have you seen any improvements in your mental health, and if so, what in particular has helped?
Living at Rivendell has helped my mental health because it’s a different and happy environment. I’ve seen a massive improvement in my mental health because of all the help I am getting from mental health team, and the member of team at Rivendell.
My bearded dragon has also helped me with my mental health and so has my home, and friends, and family, and health team.
How was your moving in process?
It ran smoothly – I was really excited but nervous at the same time. I was meeting new staff, new house friends and different surroundings to what I was used to. I moved from hospital – I had been in hospital for 8 months.
When I see Rivendell, I knew I would be happy here. I met the manager and my team before I moved in, and had visits for lunch and tea.
Do you have any hobbies or interests that you enjoy?
Tracking and watching planes, where they are going or coming from. I like to go and watch planes but haven’t been able to during lockdown. I love Disney stitch and my suite has stitch all over the place. I have a pet dragon called Sapphire, she is only a baby 6-8 weeks of age.
What have you missed most during lockdown?
I have massively missed my family, but made sure I stayed in contact on phone text and video calls.
What are your favourite activities that you share with the people you live with?
I like my own personal space sometimes, listening to music, playing on my PS4, and talking with my family and other friends. When I do join in for activities, we have a white board where we write lovely notes to each other – staff to people supported, and people supported to staff.
We have quotes for the day, and at the minute we have a hangman challenge where we all join in and guess the name of the subject.
What is your experience of living at Rivendell so far?
I like the different personalities of everyone, staff and my house mates. The friends I have made in the house, every day is different and we always giggle and find things to make each other laugh. Rivendell is a fun place to live.
I love being here especially with the” crazy boss” as she is as funny as us all. Everyone makes this our home.
Thanks for sharing with us Zoe!
