About this home

Newton House is a residential home for adults with learning disabilities and/or autism. The home aims to provide support for individuals by encouraging them to be as independent as possible and to make informed choices in their lives. Team members are available 24 hours a day, and support is tailored to meet individual needs.

What we offer

Newton House is a homely property with seven bedrooms with en-suites. There are large communal areas for individuals to socialise in, including a kitchen where the support team provide one-to-one support to help people cook their own meals, a dining room, a conservatory/lounge and a second smaller lounge.

Additionally, there is a large garden including a sensory room/ activity room, a trampoline, paved areas and a raised sensory garden. There is also a vegetable patch in development so that individuals can participate in gardening and planting their own vegetables.

The home is located in Newbury, which has many shops, pubs, various places to eat, two theatres, a cinema, bowling and swimming facilities. The canal is popular for walks, and it also has a nature trail. Individuals enjoy visiting Hungerford Common, home to the ‘Living Rainforest’ and Hillview Farm, where they can access the local education centre.

Lifestyle

At Newton House, people are encouraged to take part in a wide range of activities in order to increase their independence skills and confidence level.

Each person has an individual activity plan around their likes and dislikes. In-house activities include cooking sessions, creative arts, sensory sessions and games and puzzles. Other activities include aromatherapy, music therapy, local walks and picnics, shopping and even horse riding in the local community. Newton House has also hosted events such as the coffee morning to raise money for the charity MIND and a tea party with lots of cakes and refreshments.

One individual has begun voluntary work at the nearby Nature Centre, which has greatly increased their confidence, and they have developed a good work ethic. They are interested in working in other areas of the community with the potential to take part in paid work.
