About this home

This is a Supported Living home providing 24-hour support for adults with learning disabilities, autism spectrum conditions, and communication and sensory impairments.

We are focused on developing plans tailored to the needs of individuals in order to promote increased choice and control over their own lives.

Our experienced team works in partnership with families, carers, advocates and public service professionals to ensure that the support provided is proactive and appropriate.

We follow an active, person-centred approach together with the principles of SPELL, which supports people to increase their independence and achieve their planned outcomes.

Our Total Communication approach enables the support team to implement individualised communication strategies for people who are supported to express their wishes and make choices using a wide range of communication tools, including photos, PECS and Makaton.

What we offer

This home is a large detached house with four bedrooms and one self-contained flat. There is also a communal lounge, dining room, fully equipped kitchen, laundry facilities and a pretty garden.

This home is situated near Blackwood. The home benefits from a rural setting but with access to a wide range of local community facilities such as shops, restaurants, local colleges and employment opportunities. There are also excellent transport links into Cardiff and Newport.

Lifestyle

This is a dynamic environment. Some days, everybody enjoys being active, and it can get lively; other days, people find comfort in relaxing quietly at home.

Everybody here loves to socialise with each other. Often, people can be found in the communal areas getting together. People also meet up with a neighbouring Achieve together at home.

Individuals are supported to take part in a wide range of activities that can help build on skills and independence. People enjoy gardening, exercise classes, pottery & art classes, and water aerobics, and many people have enrolled in college courses.

One gentleman has a paid job as a cleaner at the local hospital, and another gentleman is a representative for a self-advocacy group within the organisation, Campaign 4 Change.

We support individuals to plan and organise their own activity timetables and take part in activities that develop social, communication and life skills. These range from support in daily life skills such as shopping through to college placements, voluntary and paid work placements and leisure activities.

People are encouraged to express their rights freely and become contributing members of the community. In our experience, this helps to increase social and emotional well being and decreases the stigma that can affect people with learning disabilities.
