About this home

Pendean Court is a specialist residential home, without nursing, in Liskeard, Cornwall, that provides 24-hour support and care to eight deaf and/or deafblind men and women over the age of 18. People we support have a range of diverse and sometimes complex needs, including learning and physical disabilities, mental ill-health and dementia. In particular, we can support people whose previous placements have broken down because of their complex needs.

Our team enables people we support to live more independently; however that may look like for them. We enable people to make the most of their existing skills and develop new ones so they can achieve their goals. At Pendean Court the people we support build their confidence and enjoy getting more involved in their local community.

What we offer

Pendean Court is a detached, single-storey home that is fully wheelchair-accessible and adapted to suit the needs of the people we support.

The home has eight bedrooms, all with en-suites fitted with height-adjustable sinks. We also have two communal bath/shower rooms with hoists and other specialist equipment. Our lounge and dining room are very spacious, and the home has two modern, well-equipped kitchens.

People at Pendean Court love our large garden with its raised planting beds and conservatory. The home also has two vehicles, one of which is adapted for wheelchairs to help people get out and about for appointments, shopping trips and activities.

Lifestyle

Communication, independence and personalisation are our focus at Pendean Court. Everything we do is personalised to the individual’s unique needs and wishes. We get to know every person we support extremely well so that we can be responsive to small changes in their mood and behaviour.

We also use a range of appropriate communication techniques, including British Sign Language, and tailor how we communicate with each person to suit their preference.

Every person we support is involved in planning and reviewing their care. We also work closely with a person’s family, their support network and their healthcare professionals to ensure that the right support is delivered in the right way.

Everyone plays a part in how the home is run, helping with planning menus, shopping, cooking, cleaning and tending the garden. We have fun; we support people to make new friends and to fulfil their potential.
